The brief to this assignment was very identical to the one from the first semester. However, this was not group work, hence more pressure, more work, more stress. However, i visited the area a few times to gain a better understanding of the space i was studying. Personally, I appreciate this landscape very much, as it provides an interesting break away from the towering buildings.
For our Parklife module in semester 1, we were split into groups and given specific sites to research and make a presentation on. Our chosen site was south bank. We spent many days visiting the site as a group and on our own, concentrating on specific things such as, drainage, maintenance, security and construction.
As a part of our Parklife module, we visited Laban centre, concentrating on the landscape of the garden. we were specifically looking into heights and measurements of the form of the landscape. We split up into groups of 4's, for the measurements, before producing a piece of work representing these measurements.
Garden Visit : The Laban Center was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building is clad in diaphanous, and multi-coloured, polycarbonate sheeting. The entrance front is approached through multifaceted composition of geometrical grass mounds. Reflections of the mounds in the mirror glazing propagate the design idea. The angled grass mounds are re-inforced with geotextile and the arrises are formed with timber. The timber is being damaged by grass cutting machinery and will have to be replaced in due course.
