Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness. - Frank Gehry

Laban Centre 25/10/2009

As a part of our Parklife module, we visited Laban centre, concentrating on the landscape of the garden. we were specifically looking into heights and measurements of the form of the landscape.
We split up into groups of 4's, for the measurements, before producing a piece of work representing these measurements.

Garden Visit : The Laban Center was designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building is clad in diaphanous, and multi-coloured, polycarbonate sheeting. The entrance front is approached through multifaceted composition of geometrical grass mounds. Reflections of the mounds in the mirror glazing propagate the design idea. The angled grass mounds are re-inforced with geotextile and the arrises are formed with timber. The timber is being damaged by grass cutting machinery and will have to be replaced in due course.

Kings Cross - Spaces In Waiting

Kings cross, Semester 1 Final Project Site Visit - 26/10/09.
The nerves and excitement of getting to see the site of where our final project of semester 1 was to be set was setting in. Our Site visit was mainly used to walk around Kings Cross, and absorb its culture and the environment, before moving along the canal to our site.

  • Location: south bank
